University shortlisting and I-20
We focus on SEVP-certified universities — public state systems (Texas, NC, Arizona, Indiana), strong R1 and R2 research schools, and select private universities. GRE optional has changed the game; many master's programs are now GRE-waived for engineers with 7.5+ CGPA.
Once admitted, the university issues an I-20 form (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status). The I-20 contains your SEVIS ID, program code, tuition and living estimate. We review the I-20 line by line — incorrect dates or financial figures are a refusal trigger.
Visa fees, SEVIS fee and policy thresholds are reviewed periodically by the US Department of State and SEVP. Confirm the current figures with our team before paying anything.
SEVIS, DS-160 and visa fee
SEVIS fee (currently USD 350 for F-1) is paid online at fmjfee.com — receipt is mandatory at the consulate. We pay this for you and store the receipt.
DS-160 is the online non-immigrant visa application — about 80 fields, several with travel and education history. We fill this with you in a single sitting at the Nadiad office because mistakes here cannot be corrected later.
Visa MRV fee (currently USD 185) is paid through the US Travel Docs portal, which generates the receipt needed to schedule your OFC and consular appointments.
Mock interview and consulate prep
F-1 visa is granted or denied in roughly 3 minutes at the consular window. We run 5 to 8 mock rounds covering: why this university, why this program, why USA over Canada or UK, who is funding you, what is your post-study plan, do you have ties to India.
The 'ties to India' question is misunderstood. Officers are not asking if you will return — they are checking if your story is consistent. We coach you to answer your real plan honestly, not a memorised script.
Financial documentation
First-year tuition plus living costs (USD 35,000 to USD 70,000 depending on university) must be demonstrably available. We assemble parent ITR for 3 years, FDs, sanctioned education loan letter (SBI, BoB, HDFC Credila, Avanse), property valuations and any sponsor affidavits.
The officer is looking for a credible source-of-funds story across the source documents — round numbers, sudden deposits, or undocumented gifts trigger 214(b). Our checklist is updated each time we see a refusal pattern.
OPT, STEM OPT and post-study planning
After course completion you can apply for OPT (Optional Practical Training) — 12 months of work authorisation in your field. STEM-designated programs (specific CIP codes) get a 24-month STEM OPT extension on top, totalling 36 months.
We help you pick programs whose CIP code is on the STEM list, since this directly affects your H-1B candidacy through three lottery seasons. After OPT we stay reachable for STEM OPT filing, H-1B sponsor questions and J-1 to F-1 conversions.
